My dad served in the national guard for 20+ years before mandatory retirement. He was always at the upper end of the weight standards. He had to watch his diet closely a few weeks before his regular weight checks. He primarily worked as an airplane mechanic. He was good at what he did. They’re going to be getting rid of men like my dad. And that’s going to have a negative impact on keeping things in good working order.

My workplace once hired a manager like Hegseth. Someone with no technical experience in the field, who clearly was out of her depths. So what did she start doing? Writing people up. We didn’t even work in the type of workplace where being „written up“ was a thing, but she made it into a thing. She wrote people up for the smallest offenses, and she threatened people with „write ups“ who had done nothing wrong. Then the firings began.

Then people started quitting by the droves.

What Hegseth is doing is what weak, incompetent, insecure managers do. They want to show everyone they are the top dog, so they bark and growl instead of being an actual human being. They care more about looking big and powerful than being inspirational and motivational. They micromanage and nitpick superficial issues because they lack the ability to do any strategic thinking.
