SS: After months of talks and negotiations US China relations have again heated up. It seems both sides want to establish who has the upper hand.

China feels that it has an advantage (rare earth) which will soon no longer exist due to capacity investment in US and beyond.

US has played all it’s cards from tariffs to technology restrictions to investment curbs and visas.

If we really have those cards, I would rather we be a bit more decisive and actually use them right now, than just threatening to use them while trying to minimize the short term damage on our side (e.g. stock market, election ratings etc).

This rare earth ban from China is targeting the defense and new tech sectors of the US. It shows clear hostile intentions of suppressing and overtaking the US than just trade deal negotiation tactics.

It will be more painful to compete with China the longer we wait, as China is growing much faster than the US now. In situations like this, we strike first when we still have the slight advantages. Heavy tariffs, sanctions, recognizing Taiwan, export control whatever, use the cards now before they are irrelevant. It is beyond election cycles but the fate of the US and the free world. I think even the Democrats will understand this and cooperate.
