Russia has denied reports that one of its submarines suffered a malfunction after it surfaced off the coast of France.
NATO’s Maritime Command published photographs on Oct. 9 of a French navy frigate monitoring what it said was a Russian submarine off the coast of Brittany.
I have a hard time giving Russians any benefit of the doubt these days. But they are correct in saying that the submarine has to be surfaced to legally travel through the English Channel. It also travelled past Gibraltar at the surface.
That doesn’t mean it isnt on the surface because of a fault though

From the article: „Reports by some media outlets of an alleged malfunction that caused the Novorossiysk diesel-electric submarine to make an emergency surface off the coast of France are false,“ Russia’s Black Sea Fleet said in a statement, according to TASS, Russia’s state news agency.
Right… So it _had_ a malfunction. Got it. Confirmed by the Russians denying it. Thanks!
Also later in the article: The statement added that „the submarine crew is currently conducting a routine inter-fleet transfer after performing missions as part of the Russian Navy’s standing task force stationed in the Mediterranean Sea.“
Ok, so this is Russian for that they evacuated the crew from the broken submarine and they will be sent home to their families and live happily ever after…
Most successful submarine in the Russian Navy. Nothing to see here!

Maybe, after all the strikes on the fuel infrastructure in Russia, they are just out of diesel?

Sick of Russia and their sabre-rattling. Sick of Putin apologists. Imagine how much better the world would be if a Gorbachev style premier were in place there.

Instead of Navy ships tracking the Russian fleet, the world should just send environmental disaster and recovery teams to follow them around. It’s easy to find any Russian Navy vessel, just follow the oil slick.

It feels like we are living in a never ending Monty Python sketch. For example take the fight with the black knight in „Holy Grail“. Every hit was just a flesh wound.

Stop writing „stealth submarine.“ All military submarines are „stealth.“ That’s why they go under the water.

How did it surface if it was limping it’s way back from the Mediterainian? Or is this another sub?

Malfunctioning!?!? Ah ok….

That thing will never make it to port. Even with the tug trying to support it. Too much damage. It’s been leaking for weeks.

Aren’t all submarines ’stealth‘ ??!

TIL there are non-stealthy submarines
