Why isn’t the artists tax exemption means tested? Obviously if you are rich like Leo Varadkar or Miriam O’Callaghan you shouldn’t be getting exempt from paying your fair share.
I would love to know how many copies of her memoir sold and what parts of Dublin 4 the people who bought them lived in.
Paying tax on earnings or not, just having the ego to think there is a market out there that justifies the time and effort I’m sure it takes to write a memoir is peak RTE presenter delusions of grandeur, especially in 2025 when nobody even watches television anymore

Mentioned it already but people need to understand how the media works.
Most authors are entitled to the tax exemption.
So every time a high profile person publishes a book, the media asks them if they applied for the tax.
Media then goes off and publishes “Rich celeb gets tax free bonanza.”
If they say no, you get headline above.
Similar tactic played out this summer where every Irish celeb interview had a question if they would run for president.
Leading to “X rules out Presidency.” You then get snarky comments here saying “who does X think they are? As if we’d vote for them.”
So rather than getting annoyed with these stories, think of how they are generated
