Verrückt, wie manche Leute denken, „diplomatische Immunität“ bedeute „tun Sie, was Sie wollen“. Respekt gilt in beide Richtungen. Wenn Sie Ihr Land im Ausland vertreten, beginnen Sie vielleicht damit, den Bürgersteig nicht zu blockieren. Denn solche Fälle sind mir in Österreich nicht aufgefallen.

    1. I would do the same as an austrian diplomat with imunity somewhere out there in the world

    2. > The mayor even had to send a formal protest (a facebook post), reminding them that diplomatic plates aren’t a free pass to ignore traffic laws.

      They actually are.

why ask if we park like this if you didn‘t notice cases like this in austria?

There is already studies about this. I can link you one here:

also it is not only austrian diplomats that do that 😉 i shall be struck by a lightning if your diplomats don’t do this.

book recommendation: „weird people“ – that’s where i read first about this behaviour

Diplomats all park like wankers, for some reason they seem to think diplomatic immunity means they can be massive jerks.

I live in an area with a few embassy residences, and when you see somebody double-parking or blocking a bike lane, or generally flaunting traffic rules, the chances they’ll have diplomate license plates are usually close to 90%.

My friend, all embassy employees drive and park like complete assholes, everywhere in the world. And yes, yours in Austria too.

    7. Go and check how diplomats park in vienna. No diplomat give a shit about parking rules. Nationality does not matter.

I’ve seen another country’s ambassador drive on the sidewalk with a Smart here 😭😂

IIRC the bernese City Council has formally asked the Saudi Ambassador multiple times to obey by the traffic laws, because he has accumulated fines of almost half a million francs.

    10. I’d love to say no, but just recently I had to call the police because some dude parked in front of my block’s main door. He managed to box in an entire apartment block with his stupid ass BMW.

    11. Earlier this week i almost got hit by the car of the minister of interior. (I was on a crosswalk)

Since i live in vienna(nearly 20y) i got almost run over twice by a car on a pedestrian crosswalk with traffic lights(„green light for me“) both times it was a diplomat car.

It’s not the nationality, it’s the social position of those dicks.

Actually surprised it’s a Toyota and not a 200k Mercedes or Porsche.

    14. Yes, cause ONE austrian person is parking like an ass, all austrians are parking like ass.

    15. If you think this is bad, you should read up on what our ambassador to the EU has been up to.

    16. comradenutterfluff on

All of the above but additionally, ambassadors don’t drive themselves. You can thank the Macedonian driver for the parkjob. They do tend to behave like this though, regardless of nationality.

Man, I think just being in the Balkans brings out someone’s animal instincts. I saw a BMW convertible with swiss plates here once. A guy and a woman driving, and the trashy whore, I couldnt call her any other way, threw a plastic coffee cup right over her head like throwing the hat when they celebrate college graduations. Would you do that in Switzerland you dumb bitch?

    18. The issue isn’t that he’s Austrian, the issue is that he’s a self-reightous asshole. While that’s very common in Austria, it’s nowhere near uniquely Austrian. There are documented cases of self-reightous assholes in loads of cultures.

    19. I guess he wanted to do the right thing and park on a cycle lane. That would be Austrian.

    20. Flaky_Answer_4561 on

We dont claim that guy, that propably is only in that Position bc he is from a certain party or bc of nepotism

    21. >Crazy how some people think “diplomatic immunity” means “do whatever you want.” Respect goes both ways, if you represent your country abroad, maybe start by not blocking the sidewalk. Because i didnt notice cases like this in Österreich.

Just because you didn’t notice that doesn’t mean it’s not happening.

Just two days ago I walked past 3 diplomatic cars standing right in the middle of a sidewalk here in Vienna (probably Australian or New Zealand Embassy). This happens in Austria too, just like in every other country.

Getting this irrationally angry about this specific case (there’s really enough space even with that car there) is really weird.

    22. I once was sitting in a car, driven by a diplomat, and we got pulled over for speeding. She just had to show her diplomatic id and we were good to go. It was 80km/h over limit in Vienna.

Edit: she was a Canadian diplomat 😉

They just don’t give a shit.
