Someone needs to keep track of how many eateries go out of business between now and next July. Maybe it’s a cut that won’t be required.
Nice 9 month window the jack up prices before claiming all that lovely VAT back!
I’d love if they brought it in Jul-26 and then reversed the policy in Oct-26…

They almost touched on this on virgin media the other night. They were so close.
They mentioned how small cafes and the like are so important to communities. Especially rural communities. I was convinced if they did something like this it would be a more targeted campaign to actually help smaller businesses out.
The hard truth is that the margins are indeed terrible. Those expensive coffees are not profiteering for a lot of places.
So we do need something. I feel it’s cheap points to say wahh expensive coffee bad. But again, lots of small cafes are making fuck all.
A measure that gives tax windfalls to big chains is fucking nonsense.

Well, one fella that does know about this, and who has been screaming about it for ages, is Paul Treyvaud. He doesn’t want any VST cut at all, and he reckons that there is a tsunami of small businesses that have been long established in their communities for many years are going to go to the wall over the next year.
It’s not being delayed until July, they literally said they were planning to introduce it in July during the budget statement as they announced it.
They said it was to protect jobs so if that’s the case, why wait until next July?

I am not really in favour of this cut but I hate when this shit is pulled. They buy a headline of having done something, then delay implementing it for most of the period it is supposed to be in place for. It happens with childcare measures also.

Lada there’s some restaurants that are really struggling although I would say those who offer value are not struggling as much.
Eating out is a luxury be that a chicken fillet roll or a 4 course meal, there’s cheaper alternatives out there.
What is happening is a lot of those going out of business are going out because yes over heads have gone up but they are charging premium prices for bog standard food….
There’s also places charging bog standard prices for bog standard food and they are doing well.
