    1. I agree in concept, but I’m failing to understand when Canadian workers get tapped in to build. Surely we have enough unemployed tech workers to build out our own cloud services and transition to operating systems.

We don’t need to bring in the workers, we need to connect our hungry workforce to the capital they need to be competitive.

    2. In direct opposition to last week’s announcement about more competition. You can’t have both more competitors and bigger ones unless the market itself becomes drastically bigger, which is unlikely.

The bit about “winning the global talent race“ means a continued race to the bottom for already disastrous unemployment and stagnant pay in the overcrowded job market.

    3. More market solutions, more money for rich investors and likely tax cuts to come with them.

Why can we not have nationalised companies within these industries. Allowing for government revenue and building the base for the same jobs but without the personal enrichment of the owner class.

I’ll wait to pass judgement until these announcements take a more solid form, but I am not confident this is the government I would trust to implement a „bigger companies“ strategy.

I bring this dude up often because frankly, he was extremely bright, and he shaped Western central planning in WW2 through price controls – John Galbraith.

He advocated for larger companies. But, absolutely crucial to his outlook was the two countervailing powers of Unions and Government. I do not trust the Liberals to form an in kind strengthening of labour rights or implement new laws (like Mexico) to ensure the sharing of these newfound taxpayer funded profits.

We are already seeing increased pricate equity activity and mergers in this country. We know consolidation of profits and wage restriction follows, that’s the role of a corporation, maximize returns. How can we guarantee with legislation that this doesn’t all get funelled to the capital class?
