    1. Trump is effectively a walking talking catalyst for mass psychosis from where I am standing. Him with decades of rightwing propaganda just turn into brain melting vapor that is civilization collapsing.

    2. Quite a ’nasty‘ turn from „_a kinder, gentler nation_“ isn’t it GQP?

Who are they telling this to? If you don’t see it by now, you will never see it

      Their thesis:

      >He isn’t afraid to insult and belittle citizens and politicians alike, which teaches people that treating others badly is actually acceptable, contradicting every “treat others as you want to be treated” life lesson.

The most depressing part is knowing that damage he has, is, and will cause likely won’t be fully repaired in my lifetime.

    6. This is what I have been saying. Just him and half our gov openly committing crimes and being corrupt is really setting a horrible example for the rest of society to follow, thinking it’s okay now.

i have never felt less hopeful or less optimistic about my future, and as a result i’ve never felt as depressed or angry as i have been lately.

Wages suck, healthcare coverage is a joke, nothing is doing well but AI and most analysts agree its in a massive bubble. corporations rule our lives. and Trump is literally doing everything possible to make all of these issues even worse.

I really think history will remember MAGA as a cult. What else do you call something where everyone believes one man can never be/do wrong?

Real world harm? The harm is only just beginning. It has barely registered yet.

The nation has had its last free democratic election and being anti-fascist (ie being a good human being) has one branded as a terrorist. The USA is screwed.

The harm is only just beginning. You’ll all be living in a full dictatorship by 2030. There is nothing surer.

Where in the frozen hell has this author been since 2017? (Or earlier?) Did it really take them until it’s reached the current level of *fascist shitposting from the official communication channels of the White House* to figure out that Trump is cruel, petty, and vile in a way most humans abhor?

    11. I’m in my 50’s and it seems like every thing I learned in high school and college history and government classes are now a lie.

I can’t imagine being a poli-sci major right now, in college. The textbooks can’t keep up!!

    12. I had this same thought the minute he won his second term. After all, how do you tell your children their behaviour is wrong when it’s the same behaviour as the president? And then, children grow up…

We are already seeing it across the GOP, just look at JD „Couch lover“ Vances social media over the last four years and how the press secretary and government officials are behaving toward questions. Various other GOP members are also just nasty and act with no social filter.

IMO the truly damaging thing wasn’t Trump saying and doing inconceivably stupid shit … it was all the people in my life, friends and family, vehemently defending it

    15. It’s not just „normalizing being mean“ that’s the harm, as the article is suggesting. Perhaps more concerning is the psychological warfare- using techniques like „flood the zone“ that deliberately cause panic in people and cause them to shut down from being overwhelmed, and the normalization of blatant lies causing people to be skeptical of their realities. They are purposefully traumatizing us, like an abusive spouse. I don’t throw the word tramatizing around lightly.

„Trump is mean and that’s making other people think that’s okay“ is concerning, but is way down the line on the list of the psychological harm they are causing.

Yeah no shit. I can’t imagine having 70% of a countries population constantly forced into despair, fury, and terror-DAY AFTER DAY could be all that great for overall human health. Of course the whole worlds probably feeling the same sense of dread knowing chapter 6 of ww3 is progressing on schedule just as is clearly intended. People are getting meaner because how could they not?
I’m not reading the article. ☮️❤️🍀

    17. The media sane-washing and both-sides-ing is massively to blame in all this. If the world gets out of this in one piece there needs to be a massive reckoning for reporting and the media companies that platformed these MFs with little to zero pushback under the guise of being „fair and balanced.“

Fun fact, two sessions in a row I’ve raised my voice (and even yelled at) my therapist because they keep telling me to „ignore it“ everytime I bring up anything happening in the united states.

Today I told her about how trump wants to suspend habeas corpus AND bring back gau conversation therapy AND told her about Steven Miller’s slip up and freeze up.

She said all this was damaging my mental health and clearly having an affect in me, and I need to ignore it. As if burying my head in the sand will just solve it for me.

      I should send her this.

I remember talking with my ex during COVID how damaging Trump’s rhetoric was.

Dude, no matter what you think about COVID, the way he handled that situation was ABYSMAL. Then came the normalization of conspiracy theories. Then came his ban on Twitter… and i called out the kneejerk reaction we’d see from MAGA because of that.

I knew his supporters would be LIVID. That’s when they all read 1984 for the first time and called the left fascist for laughing when Trump got banned.

He’s been an intellectual and moral sickness in America since 2016. I grew up midwest conservative and watched friends and family lose their morality with what Trump has done to the Republican Party.

Republicans were so much better when they hated Russians imo.

    20. There was a day when mocking a disabled person/journalist by acting like you are having convulsions or are mentally handicapped… would have ruined any political career.

So I ask, what happened to you America?

    21. I believe we saw this in action at the Ryder Cup a few weeks ago. The US crowd’s treatment of some of the players was shameful.
