Good thing this is about non-Canadians coming to Canada to have children for the exclusive reason of getting them Canadian citizenship so they can move here, so actually we aren’t talking about Canadians at all here!
Conservatives are doing this as they want their base to keep attacking immigrants. Lately the government has been holding businesses accountable for abusing the TFW program. People are starting to realize that it’s businesses fault. Conservative are trying to get the anger directed back at immigrants
I mean, if Bill C-3 is ever reintroduced in this Parliament and passes, then effectively, we’ll be ending the first-generation limit as well, so repealing birthright citizenship is a pipe dream.

I don’t know why people insist on pushing immigration policy from across the oceans. I’ll pick a random country , Italy. You can be born in Italy, raised in Italy, have been to school there, and spoken Italian your whole life, but if your parents aren’t Italian citizens, you aren’t Italian. At 18, you’d have to go through the undignified process of applying for citizenship in the only country you’ve called home. You’re basically deemed guilty of being an outsider until proven innocent. What utter stupidity, let’s not.
This will stratify people into Canadian and Canadian*. Something I don’t ever want to happen. I also don’t trust any government to handle this appropriately.
Regardless of the arguments for and against this previously uncontested right, that this is what they want to discuss speaks volumes.
As a Carney supporter, the CPC is right on this one. There’s no particular reason as to why we have this system. It’s not the norm and it doesn’t particularly serve us in any meaningful way
