Passengers at both Manchester and Heathrow airports have been left stranded after Border Force passport e-gates failed.

It has also been claimed that Stansted Airport in London has been suffering from similar issues, with images on social media showing thousands of passengers packed into the security areas of the airports.

A Manchester Airport spokesman confirmed: “We are aware of an issue with UK Border Force’s systems across the country, affecting a significant number of airports.

“Our Resilience Team and customer services colleagues are supporting passengers while UK Border Force and the Home Office fix the issue.”

Currently sat on a plane at Stansted waiting to disembark – here’s hoping it’s fixed this side of midnight!

30 min update: They’ve gotten us to a gate, but not allowed to disembark as there is no space at border control

1 hour update: We’ve disembarked, but arrivals is solid right back to the intake corridor from the runways. It’s moving, but slowly

I’m 12 weeks pregnant and got completely stuck when I got off my plane from Bucharest. (Stansted, departed late at originally 6.25pm, to the incredible woman who noticed the pregnant Asian girl crying, I hope you’re reading this so I can thank you for saving me and my baby!)

If it wasn’t for this amazing, amazing woman who noticed my distress (and that I’m pregnant and not just bloated) and told me to move to the front with the parents with babies, I would’ve had a panic attack, fainted, or both as I was shaking uncontrollably from the heat and the stress of it all. I also started getting the worst cramps fearing the worst with my baby which was terrifying. I wish I knew her name so I could thank her for telling me to move forward as I didn’t think anyone would believe that I’m pregnant and just stayed with the normal queue. I was so stressed out, I couldn’t speak to her or register what she was saying but I did hear her and she saved me in so many ways.
