There’s no weasling out of this. For decades, racism meant the same thing for all religions and ethnicities. Then all around the world, Western Allies of Israel make a switch to establish that one religious ethnographic has special protections for the state Government associated with their Religion.
There’s no protections for Canadian Indigenous peoples governments, you’re allowed to say they faked the Residential School genocide, that they’re corrupt, they control the media, that they’re criminal organizations, but criticism of Israel gets something that Canadians don’t have. We have provincial governments discriminating on gender identity and stopping CHILDREN from playing sports and getting healthcare.
It’s absolutely a disgrace that a foreign nation has more protections than Canadians.
There’s people who say Sikhs don’t get the to use Canada as a place to advocate for Sikh Nationalism. How is it different from Jewish Nationalism?
Despite what this blog post says, the IHRA definition of antisemitism is very clear and sensible to reasonable people.
It’s the activists who have spent decades trying to radicalize their movement to justify violence and terrorism that can’t wrap their heads around it.
It’s very easy to criticize Israel without resorting to inappropriate Nazi comparisons. It’s very easy to criticize Israel without holding them to a completely different standard than the rest of the world.
The fact that activists can’t manage do so without quickly slipping into racism shows how extreme they’ve gotten, or why they chose to be so publicly and vocally obsessed with this one issue in the first place.
