„They [investors] don’t have to put money into this sector, they don’t even have to put money into this country,“ he said, adding that many „haven’t made a profit in years. This isn’t an industry awash with cash. It is an industry providing vital infrastructure“.

If only there was some way to make sure that vital infrastructure wasn’t at the whim of private investors.

    2. It’s beyond bizarre that we put up with this. Literally, can someone explain why we do?

Why are people not out protesting this? This is sickening what happened to labour saying they will lower our prices? Things just keep going up and up!

    4. We applied for a water meter last year because our water bill is crazy and we’re only 2 people. We’ve been on a waitlist ever since. I don’t think they have any plans to give us a water meter because they know we’ll pay far more without one.

Yet these companies pump sewage into our rivers and sea. People need to start protesting this.

      >Anglian, Northumbrian, Southern, Wessex and South East – had appealed to the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) for permission to raise bills by more than the amount agreed by the regulator, Ofwat.

What competition do water companies face? other than the race to see who the biggest bunch of tossers is

    7. I genuinely really love how they’re able to use (and get away with using) this line that it needs to be expensive so they have money to build more infrastructure.

Against the backdrop of a country that curiously hasn’t managed to build a single new reservoir since privatization over 35 years ago and is losing literally billions of liters *daily* of perfectly good drinking water through leaky antiquated pipes that often date back to the Victorian era.

Why is the CMA overriding Ofwat?

After they allowed a 36% increase too?

It’s like a petulant child going from one parent to other begging.

I don’t know why English people put up with this – in Scotland water is still public and we pay it via council tax.

    10. People protest Gaza and brown people but shit like this is the true bane of our quality of life
