Some people are entitled arseholes who believe that their „proper“ job allows them to treat the generally younger people serving them in shops like dog shit.
If everyone had to do a stint working in retail we’d have a lot less of this.

Could have easily said 86% and everyone would agree

Honestly, I’m surprised it’s that low. I have so many stories from working retail, and few of them are good. Especially around peak periods like Christmas, school events, sales, etc. I don’t think I knew a person working retail at that time that *didn’t* suffer anything from minor verbal chiding to physical threats. I remember a guy trying to break down our door 30 minutes after close to return an item for refund, and then threatening to torch every car in the outside the store if we didn’t let him in, over an item worth less than 20 quid. I also remember a woman threatening to sue the cashier personally because we were out of stock of something.

I once had a person curse me out of it, saying the ATM in the shop swallowed her card. It’s impossible with the ones you see in the shops. Went on for 15mins before we (a manager was called) to check her wallet… and there it was! No so much as a sorry, turned and walked off. People can be absolutely awful!

Ok but my 6 retail jobs over the years gave me the best brass neck ever. Now nobody can bother me

And 90%+ of managers just let it happen, no consequences at all for the abusive customer.
