  1. Essentially they were studying how the capsid falls apart. HIV particles are like tiny spherical membranes containing a cone-shaped capsid, which contains two copies of the viral RNA. In HIV, reverse transcription starts once the virus enters the target cell and continues inside the capsid, which moves from the membrane to the nucleus. Targeting this is attractive because it happens before the virus integrates into cellular DNA. However, it would not inhibit virus released from infected cells.
