Carneys playing 5D chess here with the revival of Keystone XL. If he can get that project rolling the people of Alberta are not going to have as much of an appetite for a fight between BC and AB regarding Northern Gateway and it will reflect that at the polls.
The reality is that the first thing to become unprofitable during the energy transition will be tar sands. Investors know this, which is why no one has shown interest.

Eby surprisingly is finally dropping the optics that the bc ndp and Trudeau played with for years and following Carneys approach. He isnt saying no ,and isnt saying bc will block it for political gain , hes saying the truth for once and that is that it is a non issue .
