    1. The only reason a trade deficit is a concern is because Trump says it is, as soon as Trump is not in power anymore it will not be a concern anymore.

    2. With politicians such as Rösti who openly endorse Trump, it’s hardly a surprise that we see this now.

If the US made anything people actually wanted they wouldn’t have a trade deficit. The only way to correct it is to force Swiss consumers to buy things they don’t want, like chlorinated chicken.

    4. So, we should reduce the trade deficit because an orange clown is angry? No thanks.

Well, I am misunderstanding something? Can’t we say that generally, if mid-longterm, more money is flowing out of country, the country must compensate with debt to keep up with the living standards, print money(inflation) or reduce the living standards?

I mean the countries with the biggest trade deficits tend to struggle the most with debt.

I have to admit though that many trade surplus countries also struggle with debt. I would have argued though that in those cases it’s mismanagement by the state and all this cashflow is flowing into the pocket of a few wealthy beneficiaries.

I base my response on  the german comedian “Volker Pispers”.

Let me know if I got it all wrong. 🙂

I have a trade deficit with my local indian food restaurant. India must reduce this deficit! 🤣

Easy, just import gold from the US. Something you can later sell for a higher price to someone else. Just don’t buy stupid things (F35 or sub prime mortgage bonds)

The main part of the trade deficit was gold exports to the US. Switzerland could just stop doing that and the trade deficit would come down significantly.

So weak, typically Swiss. Weren’t they bullied in school? And if so, didn’t they learn anything for life about how to handle bullies? Get a spine for once, we will survive 3 years of this shitshow for gods sake!

    10. US is dominating software services. Is that included in discussion about claimed deficit?

But then again, if EU couldn’t negotiate better deal I have doubts we are in position to do anything but to appease or not react. Also, whatever we do there is a new wave incoming such as 100% of pharma, movies or whatever comes to US idea, as they are swinging in full protectionism mode and domestic production and nothing we do will change that.

I guess someone understood that they can’t wage war with big powers if they depend on import from others.
