At least 5 oil tankers from Russia’s so-called „ghost fleet“ have intentionally caused oil spills in European waters over the past year.
Why are we allowing these things to keep chugging along unmolested again?
What possible repercussions could there be to seizing them and having them scrapped? They aren’t even Russian vessels on paper.
Just stop every suspected russian vessel, impound and scrap/sell it.
We need a complete blockade of St. Petersburg.

This is a Pandora’s box that Europe will not open. Oil slicks like the ones reported in the article are a world wide phenomenon and are extremely common. It would set a dangerous precedent worldwide for seizing shipping and many actors, especially ones who dont align with European interests have alot to gain with such a precedent.
Whether it be Iran seizing vessels in Hormuz for ecological damage. Or China in the South China sea and Malacca. Not to mention Russia itself can start seizing ships in the Baltics and black sea for pollution. And everyone can point fingers at Europe and say „the legalistic and ecological states of Europe did it, so we are just following their lead to combat globals pollution :)“.

You can filter by „dark vessels only“ to see the oil slicks released by shadow fleet, and some other „dark vessel“ shipping. After all „dark vessels“ are not just a Russia thing.
A vast majority of oil slicks are not released by them, and European nations, and NATO allies are major contributors to this. They dominated worldwide trade after all.
