I’m not sure why we’re even bothering to continue engaging the US at this point. Every time we do, we just find out about another concession we’ve made just a few days later.
The US has 3 individual states with larger economies than all of Canada, Canada has absolutely no power over the US.
Nobody ever said it was about economic competition. Canadians have clearly demonstrated that they prefer Canadian to American products, regardless of the price.
It’s not about the price. It’s about dignity. Something that many Americans do not seem to understand.

The only way to deal with Trunp is limit the damage and move as much away from the US as we can. It will take decades, but there have been a ton of work done to repair ties with Europe and other large markets.

I think there’s a number of casino owners in Atlantic city who would disagree with that. Trump can be beaten, the problem is that he’s got major advantages as president of the US, that the effort required is much greater than for any other nation.

I have zero expectations for this trip. Maybe even negative expectations – that it may motivate Trump to hurt the Canadian economy more. I know Carney was able to pull a rabbit from his hat on trip #1, but that was it. These negotiations are done in bad faith and just make Carney look worse.
And I know exactly what will be said afterwards. „It was a productive, positive meeting. We had a broad ranging discussion. No deal was made, but there were important steps.“

This whole article reads like Craft is desperate to get back into Trump’s good graces and avoid any possible lawfare from the DOJ.

Why is everything a competition with them? Business strategies that are to help benefit both countries shouldn’t be treated as a competition.
Trumps made zero sense in any „deal“ with every single country hes talked to. There is no game plan, someone says one thing and he retaliates with random things that dont really have anything to do with anything. More tariffs on one product and new tariffs on another. More punishment for visitors. Soon it’ll make more sense to not try to do anymore deals with him. Its pointless.
Art of the steal. Make a deal, renege on it after the other party has delivered their promises and then bully a new deal. Repeat.

The majority of America is just willing to accept what’s happening, we get that, but Canada isn’t.
