I think its more cause Costco isnt trying to make money off of the Hot Dog and Soda. Its to get you in the door to spend money on items that are going up with inflation.
How long till costco decides not to take those losses.
It will be sad day indeed.
IKEA has a similar thing but the price has risen from 1,50€ to 2€ (or 1,50€ for a vegan one) here in Germany and they don’t even include the drink anymore, that would be another 50ct or € I’m not sure right now…
The Costco hot dog is a loss leader – meaning it’s purposely priced – they lose money on every single one sold. It is not a marker for any sort of inflation statistics.
I still never eat it… lol..
I’ll fuck with that new combo calzone though… they got me
If everything was increasing with inflation then inflation would not be at the level it is.
They lose money on the hot dog but prices of costco membership have increased to offset losses
but what about dog shrinkflation? we need a measurement of dog length going back to 1985
I remember reading that CostCo was also really fighting to raise the price of their rotisserie chicken during the pandemic, because they felt that this was a signature item at that price. This is a couple of years ago now, dont know if they actually raised prices.
the fixins have been consistently removed over time. the oniy thing left to take is the relish
Definately not 4.50 worth smh
