„Mit 30 Sport zu treiben ist wie für den Ruhestand zu sparen.“ „Wir wissen, dass es von Vorteil ist, in jungen Jahren körperliche Reserven aufzubauen, diese müssen aber ein Leben lang erhalten bleiben. Andernfalls wird der Kontostand schnell schwinden“, sagt der Forscher.

That’s actually spot on building fitness early gives your body reserves for later, same way compound interest works for money.
Consistency > intensity.
Makes sense, building muscle for example is way harder the first time you do it. Strength is heavily correlated with longevity. If you build a strong base of muscle in the first third of your life, you’ve essentially set yourself up for life.
Even if you have periods where you don’t maintain it, if you had an injury for example, it would be much faster to gain that muscle and strength back rather than having to build it for the first time at an older age.
I was insanely muscular and strong in my 20s and have been able to coast on it for 5 years to get through the baby years for my kids. I have since been able to get back in and I am within striking distance of my physique in my 20s. One of the best things I ever did for myself. The strength has not returned at least to what it was but I look great!
Anecdotally that’s been my experience. I have been an avid mountain biker most of my life. I’m 53 now and while not as active on the bike I am able to maintain my fitness by just being active. My goal was to hit 50 with the body I wanted because after that it’s way more difficult to build.
I am constantly shocked by the condition of my less active peers.
