Japans regierende liberale Demokratische Partei, ihre Junior-Koalition-Partnerin Komeito und Nippon Ishin (der Japan Innovation Party) haben sich bereit erklärt, dass ausländische Studenten, die erwartet werden, die voraussichtlich in Japan als Nutznießer des Studiengebührenprogramms, das im Schuljahr 2026 beginnt, einbezogen werden soll. Diese Initiative wird Einkommensbeschränkungen beseitigen und sowohl öffentliche als auch private High Schools abdecken.

Should headlines be questions?
Well that’s a piece of good news.
This is good news, but the language „expected to settle“ and „expected to reside in Japan in the long term“ is still sufficiently vague as to allow local BOEs to exclude foreigners rather easily.
I mean, what constitutes „long term“? Does the student have to have PR? Do they have to have a multi year visa? Do their parents?
I see the need to make sure that families aren’t sending their children to Japan for the express purpose of getting a free education, but I still think that their are a lot of families that will fall through the cracks.
