I think that this discovery hints that rogue planets can form directly in the void between stars? IIRC the conventional wisdom was that they would form normally in protoplanetary disks around young stars, and then be ejected to interstellar space due to chaotic gravitational interactions.
I have seen the dark universe yawning,
Where the black planets roll without aim;
Where they roll in their horror unheeded, without knowledge or lustre or name.
6billion tons of gas and dust is quite a number
