France specifically (mentioned in article) has no need for such things. They’re bordered by allies. Their military operates in an expeditionary role.
Not to mention, they have nukes along with a doctrine that allows them to respond to any attempt of invasion with a preemptive strike.
Make no mistake, Europe lacks these kinds of weapons only by a lack of trying.

The coalition of the willing should help fund this program and once the war is over start loading up on purchasing their own.

When you’re pushed to the corner, the quote, „Necessity is Mother of Invention“ ring very much true or „where there’s will, there’s way.“
And Ukraine is fighting for its survival against neighboring bully who want to swallow the whole country.

The EU can definitely do it, don’t underestimate them.
They’ll just set up a working sub-committee to do an initial review. After a few months they will circulate a high-level working document for review and comment. Of course this initial document will only concern itself with regulation around the manufacturing process for the aluminum extruded components for the hypothetical missile.
After legislating an ombudsman office in each territory ahead of future production, they will finally be able to bring the corpus of paperwork to the larger committee to begin discussing the approach for how they will codify the process to select suppliers…

Makes damn sense that instead of hoping for tomahawks to be given to them they would make their own to use as they see fit

After 11 years of war you would think a country should be building literal UFOs instead of begging for weapons. Corupt state, failed society.

A thousand kilometers would put a lot of juicy targets on the board. Especially Russia’s oil infrastructure. Ukraine could cause significant damage with these.

The title is basically framing Ukraine as impressive and Europe as falling behind, using a catchy contrast and provocative wording to make this tech gap look surprising. Biggest problem is that whatever long range cruise EU is going to make, they don’t want to use it against Russia in fear of repercussions.

Ukraine’s know-how from the war combined with their innovations would be ridiculously valuable for NATO. Don’t see them getting in for another decade at least though.

War is the Mother of innovation…👌

Ironically, similar to their Soviet past, I expect post-war Ukraine is going to be churning out some very scary, very field tested modern weapons used in conflicts going forward.

Being at war is a strong motivator.
Europe lacks cruise missiles by design.
