Scrap the thing?
Why not just sell some of that cocaine to cover costs?
My question is: Do other countries spend this kind of money on this kind of thing? Or is their something uniquely weird about us?

Seems a serious wedge for some basic maintenance to me, as someone who knows nothing about maintenance of ships.

Take all the fuel and oil off it sink it and make an artificial reef out of it. The Ciurts will know where it lies.
Keeping it is just a money racket for someone. Remove the oils, drag it out to see and sink it making an artificial reef. There is plenty of wrecks around the coast.
The FBI and DEA failed with their spy planes, good to see the Gardai are winning the war on drugs.
