It already is very high; the price of coffee skyrocketed coming out of the pandemic.

Yeah I think coffee was referred to as black gold in Ireland during the pandemic. So this all makes sense.
Talking for black coffee (Americano) it was for 3 Euro on average already in August 2024. And right now it’s like 3.30 or 3.50, compared to last year. If you go with Latte etc. and plant based milk the cost of a takeaway coffee goes up to 5 euro.
It was already high to begin with so it didn’t increase much. I couldn’t find a source about it, but from my thinking Ireland already has one of the highest takeaway coffee prices.
If you are OK with market coffee (already grinded or mass produced coffee) you can get 250 gram of coffee for 6-7 euro in grocery stores. So for price of 2 cup of coffee you can buy a bag that you can make around 13 cups of coffee. If you want 3rd wave coffee, for price of 4 cup of coffee you can have a bag of coffee that would make again like 13 cups of coffee.
So to me, coffee prices at outside is way too expensive.

Irish overheads are much higher, and have already been included in the price of a cup for years.
If the bean price constitutes 10% of the cost of a cup in Ireland, but 50% of the price of a cup in Estonia, then coffee beans doubling in price would add 10% to a cup in Ireland, but 50% to a cup in Estonia (using noddy, made up numbers)
Already much higher price doesn’t have much room to increase more in current climate before affecting sales is all it is
Coffee beans are zero VAT in Ireland which probably skews this.
There is a lot of competition in coffee market as well. Lots open and close regularly
I was in Milan Italy last month and I could get a cappuccino for €1.70. We are being ripped off here. How much higher can they go?? In my town there’s a place selling coconut cappuccinos for €5.70!!!!!

Coffee in Ireland is a bit odd. It’s positioned more as a luxury good as we come from the position of historically being a tea drinking country. Is a staple in many EU countries, while tea is positioned as a luxury in many of those. So in general our coffee prices were pretty high to begin with.
It’s reached a point where people will not pay any more…
Low inflation from a high cost base.
It is quite literally cheaper for me to buy coffee from Germany than the scalping local roasters.

It might be a smaller percentage increase but in absolute terms its ridiculous .
I paid 5 euro for a flat white with oat milk in costa yesterday I nearly dropped dead. Recently invested in a coffee machine for home and didn’t realise quote how good the home machine was until I drank the Costa cup yesterday. 58 euro for a month’s supply of beans making 2cups a day. It’s actually a no brainer to get a home machine, and you can definitely buy cheaper beans

In my local in 5 years from buying there over night it went it went up by 100 % from 180 to 360 when it switched to that 9 grams muck
Why is that though? It’s sold on commodity pricing by big traders, ireland buys their coffee from the same sources as the rest of the world so why’s the price not going up as fast?
Small island nations already paid high prices. With climate breakdown stressing coffee producing areas this is only going to get worse

At the start of the pandemic I was able to buy six packs of Lavazza Oro for about €22 I believe. It’s about €10 now for one.
