Interesting read. It mentions a “bottom-up decision-making process” where institutional elites only gave support once the majority of society did. That contrast with the U.S. is striking. Here it often feels like policy is driven top-down by elites, lobbyists, and party interests, regardless of what most people want. As an American, it’s clear how broken our system is when public opinion rarely translates into political action.
Thats because all of our major parties are very close to each other politically. They all share the same vision of a social democratic country where the poor, the sick and the elderly are taken care of. They just have different voter groups to pander to.
