Carney doesn’t seem eager to be seen talking to a man with outstanding international warrants for his arrest for war crimes, leading the country carrying out an internationally recognized genocide in full view of the world? Yeah that’s definitely a “hard line”, let’s ignore all the diplomatic, military and financial support extended by Canada to Israel throughout this genocide.
The bare minimum for a hard line would’ve been to actually carry out the governments earlier-stated policy of stopping all weapons shipments. This is optics. How stupid do these people think Canadians are?
That’s a good thing. They are not our ally. All they want from us is endless diplomatic supports, guns, and money. It complicates our relationships with 100 countries across the world who actually support human-rings. It makes us complicit in genocide and tarnishes our moral standing. What we get from them in return is suppression of speech and suppression of freedom of assembly. They are the enemy of our freedoms if you actually think about it, telling us what we are allowed to think, feel, and say.
Canada can’t afford to be isolated on the world stage, so this was inevitable. If we still had a strong relationship with the United States under a sane administration, I could see how we wouldn’t end up breaking ranks with them on this issue (although I would still personally disagree with that). As of now, we have nothing to gain from being offside from the rest of the world for whom we have to play catch-up in developing new relationships and strengthening existing ones (apart from the US of course).
