I mean there’s facts and then how you decide to present them let’s not be naive that there is an agenda against her
Catherine Connolly tried to give a human being a second chance. Shoot her, that is the response and reaction of the media and the pro-NATO rugby dad’s.
I think it’s time we all accept that there are no genuinely good candidates in this presidential election, instead of anyone trying to justify or defend the foolish behavior of any of the three.
I don’t think Heather or Jim are being asked any difficult questions yet, Catherine Connolly has been and then her answer is dissected by different media’s. It appears biased to me.
She’s comfortably the most competent of the options available, but the opinion of the president on foreign affairs is fairly important. Her naivety on military spending in the EU, after all-time lows, during Russian aggression is such a bad position to take. Criticising and blaming NATO „expansion“ as if it’s not sovereign countries deciding to join because they feel threatened.
FF/FG/Greens/(even SocDems) have someone on staff or in the party who does something that ranges from shady to a court fine: the world rightfully goes mad and calls for accountability.
Catherine Connelly tries to hire and get Garda clearance for a member of an anti-peace process violent movement who has a gun conviction: well you know context and second chances and really we should take a moment before condemning and sure who hasn’t been up before the special criminal court once or twice in their life.
Honestly I thought the hiring a gun smuggler story was going to end her campaign, but she answered the questions on it really well. The person involved did their time, engaged with the system, worked hard on her education and is now working as a civil servant elsewhere.
Either we believe in rehabilitation or we don’t. I’m fine with Gardaí drawing a line and saying „not in Leinster House“ – that’s very reasonable. But she defended her decision well.
This election we gave up on achievements and are minimising damage instead.
Facts are a pain in the area to be sure.

Interesting how complaining about blatant lies being published now gets misconstrued as complaining about facts. Almost as if this helps prove the point if nothing else.
Truly incredible how quickly people have tried to brush aside her attempt at hiring a violent criminal.

She is a terrible choice, particularly on foreign affairs. She will be the voice of the Irish people, and going by her rhetoric, she sounds like a Russian pawn. The strongest detergent against wars is having a strong defence. We are not living in a fairytale
Maybe, but she’ll still win. Gavin is a clueless amateur parachuted into the race at the last minute, and Humphries is an FG insider whose voting record (eg: blood sports) will do nothing but stand against her. The worst the centre/right media can find against CC is that she once came close to hiring the wrong person. Small beer by comparison

But the facts were wrong. Connolly says the individual left because Garda vetting took too long and was never completed. She said that she only ever contacted the Gardaí to enquire about timeline. The original article seems to have at the very least exaggerated.
My main concern on Connolly is that she’s a liability and she’ll go off on one. For all the flaws of the other two, I figure they’ll be careful enough not to cause a diplomatic incident. Higgins only really avoided doing so because he’s so erudite

Biased Media Campaign Against Catherine Connolly Attempts To Skew Facts To Smear Her But Fails Miserably Due To Their Pathetically Transparent Editorial Shenanigans, End Up Making Her Look Pretty Thoughtful And Reasonable By Mistake
The rehabilitation angle does not fly in my opinion.
Ask yourself this should a person charged with financial fraud go back to their job as an auditor right after release from prison? They served their time right?
Should a person caught with sexually explicited images of children go back to their job as a teacher? Are they not rehabilitated and deserve a second chance?
None of the above would we be comfortable with. It’s not because those people don’t deserve to move on after prison, they can and should, but some roles aren’t suitable. Maybe deep into the future sure after years of showing that they have actually rehabilitated.
CC tried to get a person who was caught with guns and cable ties and is a part of a group that doesn’t recognise the state and wants to achieve their political goals through violent means.
They are a risk and should not be allowed work in the Dail. Elsewhere fine but it once again shows incredibly poor judgement by CC.
Imagine if this was an FF/FG candidate all these CC supporters would be losing their collective minds.
Catherine Connolly is an extremely poor candidate. She really struggles to get her point across without trying to over qualify every statement she makes with irrelevant nonsense and empty words (as a mother, military industrial complex etc). Her views on foreign policy are idealistic to fit her politics and extremely naive.
The worst part about it is that she is probably the frontrunner now but I suspect the demographics of the vote will end up defeating her. As for Gavin and HH, the less said the better. Uninspiring.
