It wasn’t a joke then and it’s not a joke now. This has always been a serious threat.
I don’t think I could find a comment from a politician more cringeworthy…

Spoke too soon. Ugh.
It is not a joke. They are itching for WAR- thus the speech yesterday and rebranding to the Department Of War. Taking this as a joke is not smart in the slightest.
We need to actually prepare ourselves for an American invasion and American inflitration into revolutionary groups here.
I really don’t think anyone is taking it seriously, not to the level needed.
The Liberal party did find it funny when they seized on those comments as a convenient tool, successfully distracting Canadians from their own dismal record over the past nine years. I guess now it’s not funny since they have to take direct action against those same comments.

What’s with all the ‚free speech‘ folks not only being fucking horrible for free speech, but when they say something offensive or stupid trying to play it off as a joke?
It’s not a joke, he’s saying if we want free stuff we should become a state. Otherwise (for the next 4 years at least) we need to expect to pay up.
It is never funny, but if some traitors in Alberta are meeting and telling them they want it, what is a senile old man to think?
He’s a 14yr old bully that “LOVES” getting a reaction. And sadly, our press always reacts. I hope carney or any premiers don’t react. That’s all he wants. He’s going into cusma negotiations.
All indications are that Canada is progressing very well on the diversification front and performing amazing on the “avoid US” front.
Trump likes to get under peoples skin. And based on Hoekstras tantrums lately, it seems we are getting under their skin even more!

It’s a threat. It has always been a threat. Trump has no humour in him. Stop thinking he’s funny or even trying to be funny.
News flash: it was NEVER funny. It was always a “not so veiled” threat. Mob boss style. You know, funny like when a mob thug says “It’d sure be a shame if your knees got busted. Howz about you gimme 100 bucks!”

They are the enemy. Always have been, they’re just open and honest about it now. This is not how allies treat each other and we need to be prepared to do more than be insulted.
