I knew about omega 3s nueroprotective properties, so sounds like winning all around for brain function taking those supplements. Im assuming omega 3s mainly, the article is a little broad still regarding the exact fatty acids and just says „fatty acids“. I suffer from fat absorption issues and due to other illnesses ive been having compounding effects on my cognition. Once I absorb fat better this article will be interesting to keep in the back of my mind.
Edit: doing some research the gene the study focused on breaks down saturated fatty acids, so unrelated to omega 3…so uhh hot pockets are good for brain?(/s)

Do you think we’ll make a flip from „don’t consume ANY fat because its called fat and that means it’ll make you fat“ to „eat a LOT of fat because science says fat is good for your brain“?
Probably not, considering this isn’t new research. Still good to have more and more separate studies that confirm the same thing.

Fat = energy?? Colour me shocked. What did people think it was used for?

The neurons are making their own lipids within the brain, not bringing them in- it can’t do that due to the blood brain barrier preventing the transit of fatty acids. Old wisdom still prevails here.

>New research reveals that neurons use fats for energy
I don’t doubt they made significant progress in our understanding, but that headline phrases it as if „neurons burn fat too“ was a completely new discovery / paradigm shift.

But an article yesterday told me fat ruins my brain instantly 🙁

That’s why I’m so smart. My neurons have plenty of energy.

Ah that’s why I’m fat. To help my neurons.
Then they’re gonna love me
Keto-bros feeling pretty cocky with this one.
