      Years ago while at university I did some night security work at a London hospital for extra cash. We were given those massive Maglite torches which are obviously a weapon. If I got spotted by police they’d stop and check why I was carrying it, and I’d get some advice such as „if you get attacked by a black guy then aim for the balls, as there’s no point hitting them in the head as there’s no brains to damage“.

      Sounds like the episode will be this generations ‘secret policeman’ documentary?

      Edit: for those not familiar, it was a documentary in 2004 that outed much of the same issues.

      People on here won’t like this but you won’t get rid of misogyny, racism or any other form of discrimination in the police until you get rid of it from society. The police are the public and we get the police we deserve.

      When I read stories like this, once I’ve got past the actual actions, I’m always left feeling that after all the outrage, „lessons will be learned“, culture must be changed etc etc, what do we honestly expect?

      There are 150k police officers in the country at any one time. Average age for joining is about 25. About 10k join each year (all according to Google).

      So each year we’re looking for 10k of the following.

      1. Intelligent with good enough qualifications.

      2. No criminal record or associations.

      3. Fit enough

      4. Enough maturity and emotional intelligence to cope with the huge diversity of society

      5. Values and personal standards of a level that puts them right up there in society.

      6. Prepared to work for less that you’d get as a shift manager at Mcdonalds.

      In fact you don’t need 10k, you’ll need more for all the people who fail before joining but wanted to join.

      In 2025 that is a very high bar to achieve. When society gets its kicks from Tik Tok, Farage is out there bombarding people with flags, and Andrew Tate gets so much traction etc etc.

      Are there really 10k of these people out there in society, or are we just setting ourselves up for constant headlines because recruiting from the public is never ever going to lose these headlines till the public themselves change enough?

      Sir Robert Peel, said the police are the public and the public are the police. 30% of the population are voting for a party who have zero experience of even running a bath.

      If we don’t get our cops from the public where do we get them from?

      Alot of this is completely unacceptable behaviour so I want to state that. Fucking awful attitude, but I do question the article in regards to the pregnant woman;

      ‚When a female DDO questioned a decision to release on bail a man alleged to have raped his girlfriend, she pointed out he had also been accused of kicking the pregnant woman in the stomach. Sgt McIlvenny responded: „That’s what she says.“ Panorama does not have the full details of the case.

      The female DDO later told the undercover reporter about her anger at the sergeant’s response. „The way he went, ‚Yeah, it’s what she says.‘ He fucking stamped on her stomach when she was pregnant,“ she said.

      „I’d like to turn round and go, ‚You wanker. You’re a wanker.‘ But, unfortunately, I can’t. He’s got stripes on his shoulders.“‚

      As far as I can tell, this is the correct protocol is it not? If there is no further evidence and it is a he said/she said kinda deal then bailing him was the correct thing to do is it not? investigate and then put the case to the CPS. It’s not like they just released him without charge/investigation. Remanding in custody is usually a rare thing anyway
