Or solve some of the videod crimes first? Prove you’ll use it to do good beforehand with the evidence out there already…
No photo radars, instead cameras to watch what everyone is doing all the time… Somehow, I feel Ontarians are not winning here…
The problem of auto theft is the catch and release of repeat offenders; there is already plenty of video evidence since so many houses have cameras already.
CCTV cameras can help until criminals find a way around them. I got my bike stolen below a cctv camera at night this summer and the thieves were wearing masks so good luck identifying them.
These systems have nothing to do with protecting people from crime and everything to do with controlling populations.
There is plenty of footage from doorbell cams and such. What we need is for them to be caught and face whatever penalty the law allows for. We need law enforcement, not british style surveillance.
Half of any given town probably has a camera in their doorbell or on a tree and you don’t do shit about crimes they catch now. Neighbour surveillance is bad enough I don’t want the province spying on me.
Surveillance cameras good but not traffic ones? Wtf.
Personally I hate that I’m filmed when I’m out constantly as is by someone or another.
This is actually smart politics in terms of framing…..even if I disagree with the sentiment. The reality no one is doing to deal with the car theft issue.
They have cops who won’t investigate these kids of crimes. having cameras won’t help.
This is more about having a surveillance company be able to sell this kind of surveillance to whoever wants to buy it. There is a rush in the states right now to get these cameras in as many neighborhoods as they can. they are starting to show up everywhere, and people are confused because their governments don’t own them.
I have literally seen hours of door camera footage of porch pirates and vehicle thiefs. There’s enough footage out there to fill 100 penitentiaries. Why not act on those instead of repurpose these cameras for that? For the love of Jiminy Cricket, does this blow hard ever stop?
We couldn’t get digital id’s b/c of his fundie wing being scared of them, but a camera-based surveillance society is A-OK?
Ok, so cameras are ok to protect cars from being stolen, but they are not ok from stopping cars from speeding and killing humans? Are we sure Doug Ford is not a car in a suit at this point?
