They all have the same look on their faces. They wish that they could mind-meld and have secret comms that would not be overheard by the Administration. They wish that they had control of more communication, political, legal, and logistical processes than they already do. They look like they know that a hard choice may be coming. That certain lines might be crossed. They look like they want to do the right thing, but are unsure of exactly what that is or how they might accomplish it. They’re drawing lines in their own head. Weighing options. Making an internal note of hypothetical lines in the sand.

As a person who has sat through several commanders calls that lasted too long and could have been an email, I feel for them. But I also recognize that those leaders did it for a reason and it was my duty to attend. These GOs report to the civilian chain of command and it doesn’t upset me for them to have that reminder.
