The same cameras that were audited independently by researches at Cambridge who found that none of them fully met minimum ethical or legal standards?

Same scheme that saw the court of appeal in South Wales rule that „there was insufficient proof that the use of LFR did not discriminate and that the police had not done enough to verify compliance with equality and data protection laws.“

The same cameras that have shown significantly higher error rates for women’s facial features and folk with darker skin in multiple academic studies?

Fun times ahead.

Just the other day, I made a comment in response to some fellow Europeans who were confused about our resistance to mandatory digital identity cards, considering that many other countries have had them for years. One of the main reasons that I provided, other than the widespread disapproval of the recent Online Safety Act, was the rapidly increasing use of facial identification technology. The decision to roll out the technology nationwide now is either ridiculously unfortunate timing for Starmer, since it will only fan the flames of distrust in the scheme and lower his approval rating even further, or exactly what he had planned.

Wouldn’t it be easier to tattoo a QR code on everybody’s forehead? Triple function of camera recognition, digital ID, and making it easier to check if your takeaway is being delivered by an illegal worker.

It’s what the government wants, why don’t they just admit it?

Notice a trend with of these things? The people who lose the most is the average person, not the target demographics.

I cannot stress enough how disgusting and disappointed I am with this govt. I was so excited for Labour to come in and show everyone what they could have had instead of the Tories. I’m never voting Labour again until the OSA is repealed and they stop all this Big Brother bullshit. If they don’t repeal it before leaving office, I’ll be a Lib Dem/Green voter for life. Currently writing to my local (Labour) MP about this too.

It just doesn’t stop, does it? We’re not sliding down the path to zero privacy, we’re being dropped headfirst into it.

Fuck this government for pushing these things through even if every previous government had been frothing at the mouth for the same thing.
