definitely proving to be way harder than what Putin thought when he started it.

I’ve long suspected, or more importantly many Western military analysts/experts have suspected, that Putin’s main MO now in the war is how to back out without being lynched by his people.
He must have *long* known this was an incredibly stupid mistake that has fucked his country in ways he probably didn’t think possible, but he also knows he has to have something to show for it or the Russian public will simply lose all faith and patience with him.

It’s a war of attrition. I think the west is about to fall apart. He just has to wait a bit longer.

Is the Russian military deceptively small despite the size/wealth of their country?
Or are they just not interested in going all out?
Or is Ukraine just crazy militarized and it’s an even match?
Or are they trying not to go scorched earth because they want to keep Ukraine intact?
I have to assume that if Russia went total war it would be win, right?
Edit: downvoting for asking questions is such a bananas response. Just trying to learn some things. Ffs reddit is such a cesspool

Could they be? Yes. Any country could be defeated. It’s just a matter of At What Cost. They have just figured out that they aren’t rolling over after ~3 years, and the cost is too high. They’d have to commit genocide to defeat them – which I would have to assume at that point if Russia tried to do that, the world would take more notice and say „You are stopping. Now.“

Fortunately for Putin, he’s accountable to absolutely no one. So, he can drag down Russia for the rest of his life. With great power comes no responsibility.

Ukraine cannot be defeated because a nation fighting for its existence cannot be broken. Russia can level cities and claim territory, but it cannot crush the will of a people united by freedom, fueled by Western values, and hardened by war. Every strike only deepens Ukraine’s resolve, every loss only strengthens its identity. This isn’t a simple contest of militaries – it is a war of endurance, and Ukraine’s will to live is far greater than Russia’s capacity to destroy can ever be.

Its sad reality but prolonging the war now works to our advantage. Ending it now will finally let russia take a breath both militarly and economically and prepare for the next step.
If we can stand it for longer than them it will collapse their economy and this is really when we win.
