Would the government consider scraping stamp duty on share purchases?

Listing in London is less arduous compared to New York.
I don’t think it’s a time, cost, or complexity issue.
It’s about liquidity and valuations. The UK market is just more conservative and dominated by institutions and pension funds and less exposed to retail investors.
I think a lot of that comes to culture and appetite to risk.
Possible solutions, reduction in Savings ISA and better financial education – compound interest and investing

The UK is anti business so we deserve nothing more.
Maybe one day everyone will work for the public sector and the government will be happy.

Only in the UK would we make our public markets unattractive to British businesses while giving tax incentives to the founders when they get acquired by private American portfolio funds.

Why would you start a business in the UK if you were picking a county?
You cant build anything because of overregulation.
Energy costs 4x as much as in china or the US.
There’s no easy access to a big trading block like the EU or US.
Workers and premises are extremely expensive, mostly due to over regulation preventing construction of housing and transport.
Every aspect of the economy comes with a mountain of onerous over regulation to do anything. Rules about noise, nature, employees, taxes, data storage, legal issues etc.
The stock market is moribund with no hype and very little fresh cash chasing exciting new ideas.
The legal system is completely inundated and slow to do anything.
The future is bleak and the country is clearly heading towards a big and devastating social breakdown.
This country try is trash, you’d be mad to start up here.

Everyone can see the problem but *no one* has the courage to fix it…
The US equity markets raised $52.9bn YTD in comparison to the UK which has raised ~$248mn YTD. Even Oman raised more, at $330mn YTD.
If you’re interested in how we got here and how it could be turned around, I’ve written about the UK capital markets in 5 parts which I’ll link below (no paywall).
My Vanguard global ex-UK ETF has been doing very well incidentally.
Tongue-in-cheek but this sounds bad surely? As problematic as the regional inequality is, London is very much the UK’s economic engine and I would have thought the LSE and accompanying legal and financial industries are a significant part of London’s success.
