Tll; Dr. Ab dem 1. Oktober wird der Umbau des ausländischen Führerscheins zum japanischen Führerschein strenger.

    1. Die Bewerber müssen die japanischen Dokumentation der japanischen Residenz nachweisen und Touristen können sich nicht mehr für die Umwandlung qualifizieren.
    2. Die Anzahl der Testfragen erhöht sich von 10 Fragen auf 50 Fragen, wobei die bestehende Note 90% korrekt ist.
    3. Praktischer Fahrtest durch tatsächlich Fahren eines Autos wird hinzugefügt.

      This should have been long time implemented and checked, instead of making every foreigner’s life hard in Japan.

      How easy (or not) is it for Japanese tourists in the US for example to convert theirs?

      I have no idea how normal this is (or isn’t).

      You could never do this with a tourist visa. As a tourist you get a foreign drivers license which is given in your home country (AAA in the US) this only allows you to drive in Japan but not register or own a car. Everyone saying that people with tourist visa could convert their DL to a Japanese one is completely wrong. I’ve been in a transition to live in Japan and I’ve looked extensively into this. Also owning a car is really expensive and complicated in Japan, hence why so many people take public transport, walk, or ride bikes
