    1. Plenty of females have hosted. I”m sure Lorne has a reason and it is a stupid one.

    2. All I know is if you ask me if I would rather watch a random episode of The Carol Burnett Show or a random episode of SNL, I’m choosing Carol 100 times out of 100.

    3. So many former SNL cast members describe an absolutely and inexorably toxic environment on set. The stories about Adam McKay, not just from Jim Breuer but many others, is a prime example of Lorne’s leadership. He allows very toxic people to have too much control and influence and allows very bad things to happen on his watch. How he’s avoided being called-out is a mystery to me.

    4. If Julia Louis Dreyfus leaves a show super quick, as young and new as she was when she got SNL – it speaks volumes about the type of place that is to work at

From everything that’s leaked from behind the scenes over the years it seems like a toxic environment and Lorne keeps people around who feed his ego. Usually the criticism gets blamed on „The Network“ or an employee despite Lorne having massive creative control.

    6. She’s grumpy that she never got invited to host. I’m 40 and have never heard of her, maybe that’s more of the problem. When I look her up, I see she had a show that would arguably be competing with SNL around the time SNL started, then went on to do a few movies and Broadway. He’s not bringing her on when she’s competing with him and her career afterwards doesn’t stand out enough. Maybe that’s a rough way of looking at it, but it’s the conclusion I get from 10min of investigating someone I’ve never heard of.

    7. I mean, misogyny was much more blatant in the 1970s, especially in comedy. It definitely tracks that a comedy troupe of mostly men that is recruited and run by a man would be misogynistic.

I read some book about the beginnings of that show, and Lorne used to openly mock the way the cast members of the Carol Burnett Show would break character and start laughing in the middle of a sketch.

He was never a fan of her or her work.

But even the original cast members complained about rampant sexism on the show, so it is highly believable that misogyny fed into why Lorne Michaels had no respect for her.

I honestly wonder because I’m thinking, in those older days, they would never have huge established tv stars on. While that might seem odd today, it was much more movie stars, comedians.

In defense of this argument, Bob Newhart only did snl once, in 95. Which was after his tv run was completely over (the big one finished in 90). Not once throughout the 80s did they have him on, huge tv star.

It’s unfortunate, she’s an icon. Note that the article has her asking not stating misogyny.

Citing JLD’s experience on the show as a reason why Lorne is misogynistic when he wasn’t even at the show during her time there is an absolutely wild move.

When Michaels said something was „too Carol Burnett“ back when, what exactly does that mean? Too funny?

Perhaps they are afraid if someone like Carol Burnett was on, it would emphasize how lame that show has become by contrast.
