Trump was never credible. We as a people were, but, we elected this filthy and corrupt person back into office. So, it’s more like we as the people have lost our credibility.
Most Americans have NO FUCKING CLUE the amount of economic damage Trump has already done. I mean… in the final accounting it’s going to be trillions of dollars. The global trade realignment is unbelievably brutal. Being one of the most important centers for trade has *always* been the key to prosperity. The powerful trade nations have *always* been the most powerful and rich. We spent literally 100 years building a massive soft-power trade empire by oppressing weak countries and being a good ally to powerful countries. We spent inconceivable amounts of treasure and blood and man-hours building it. And Trump’s two terms have essentially ripped it to shreds. America as a nation will be poorer and worse off for literal generations as a result of Trump’s policies.
The only upside is that with enough people fighting for progressive candidates, we can tax the super-rich and probably still improve everyone’s quality of life pretty dramatically, just because the gap between the ultra rich and the poor is so extreme.
