In the US, Charlie Kirk, a well-known young right-wing political activist, was shot and killed. He had over 7 million followers on TikTok and over 5 million on Twitter, and is credited with playing a significant role in Donald Trump’s comeback in the 2024 US presidential election.
During his lifetime, Mr. Kirk had very close ties with Sanseito. Perhaps for this reason, Izumi Yamanaka, a member of the House of Councillors from Sanseito, called for donations to support Kirk’s family. However, this fundraising has generated a confused reaction, not only from his detractors but also from some of his supporters.
Charlie Kirk, who was fatally shot while giving a lecture at a university in Utah on September 10, 2025 (US time), attended a discussion event hosted by Sanseito in Tokyo just four days prior to the incident.
Following the incident, the Sanseito posted a condolence message on its official website and on Representative Sohei Kamiya’s X (formerly Twitter), stating:
„We intend to honor his legacy by cherishing what we learned from him, accurately conveying his message, and powerfully spreading his ideas.“
Furthermore, on September 14, party member Yamanaka posted a message on his X account, urging people to share and donate to Kirk’s family. He wrote, „We have received a message from Charlie Kirk’s family: ‚and We are collecting donations for the surviving family. We would be very grateful if anyone in Japan could help.‘ “ He also included a link to a website for donations.

However, this appeal has drawn waves of criticism.
According to US media, Kirk’s net worth is estimated to be around $12 million (approximately 1.8 billion yen). Furthermore, many see this as contradicting the party’s stance during the Upper House election, where it campaigned on a „Japan First“ policy, emphasizing spending public funds for the benefit of Japanese citizens rather than foreigners.
The comments section under Rep. Yamanaka’s post on social media became a hotbed of criticism, with comments such as, „Didn’t you say ‚Japan First?'“ and „Why are you pandering to wealthy foreigners without regard of Japanese people?“
Even accounts that appear to be supporters of the party expressed their doubts.
„With rising prices and taxes, Japanese people are struggling to make ends meet. Is this really the right thing to do?“
„I think there are more people in Japan who need our support; we should prioritize them for donations.“
Manzaku Ikedo, a political and economic commentator close to Sanseito also posted on X:
„Since Sanseito is a ‚Japan First‘ party, I think there is absolutely no need to donate to Americans.“

And America First MAGA government is bailing out Argentina. Fascists will say whatever they think will get them votes, they have no friends, only people they think it’s strategic to align with. If you look at history, fascists tend to align with each other. Even if they know at some point if their ally gets to powerful they might attack them.
