And visceral fat stands out as the strongest red flag, linked to poorer reasoning, memory and processing speed. **It adds more evidence to the need to do away with the body mass index (BMI) – judging weight and height alone – as an accurate marker of brain health (and health more broadly)**.

BMI was never meant to be a marker of an individual’s health (though obviously if you have a BMI of 35, you’re not going to be in peak physical condition), but rather a statistical measurement for groups
