The US has an anti-intellectualism problem. Critical thinking naturally turns people away from religion, but people who want unquestioned obedience prefer religion.

Considering that far too many Americans think the puritans were persecuted out of Europe, when the reality was they merely got a bit of pushback for trying to persecute the non-puritans it maybe shouldn’t be that much of a surprise that this is news to some of them.

That’s what happens when „separation of church and state“ actually means that the government shouldn’t mess with religion instead of keeping religion out of politics, like it is done in most other Western/Christian countries.
But I would have to lie if I said that it sn’t slowly seeping into our European societies, too. It’s one of the areas where I see American influence as a clearly bad thing.

Any „fundamentalist“ is going to have issues relating to the rest of the world. Watch Jordan Klepper’s interviews with MAGAs. They reply to anything with the word „absolutely“ implying lack of actual thought or consideration of the original question. Fundamentalism makes life easier in that you don’t have to think too much.

The US generally has a dogma problem. It’s hardly alone of course, but serious debate seems impossible in America right now.

Imagine being so bold and insistent upon views and claims that have zero evidence to justify such behavior. Until someone can simply substantiate why anyone should care what The Bible says, it can comfortably be disregarded.
Religious people are taught to value faith (what they’re told to believe) over logic. They believe in Trump because they’ve been told to believe in Trump and they don’t think about it any farther.
