Black sea has almost no marine life, only the upper 100 meters of water is oxygenated… below that no fish can survive
While it’s true that the Black Sea has a large anoxic area, it’s untrue that this means it has no fish at all. Turkey harvests huge amounts of fish from the Black Sea and there’s enough leftover to host a decent population of dolphins.
The story I heard about why Georgia lacks a serious fishing industry is that most fishing concessions in the EEZ were sold off to Turkey in the Shevardnadze era and no one since then has tried to get them back. So there are fish being harvested from Georgian coastal waters, just they are mostly going to Turkey rather than Georgia (if this account is true)
Most of the sea fishing licenses were sold to turkey during early 2000s, fishing industry was not large in Georgia and the abovementioned move by Shevardnadze effectively killed it.
You tell me what industry is alive except high profile corruption and ruSSian propaganda and I will tell you why the fishing industry is dead.
Poaching, and the worst of it: using electric current to kill the fish, which also kills the eggs,so there are no more fish in that area. Also, dynamite and other explosives have the same effect. Poaching has been a huge problem for Georgia since the 70s, and it continues to be so, especially in fishing and bird hunting.
