The funny thing is that debt isn’t even all that expensive. Debt issued at 2.5% or 3% isn’t great and likely a drag but shouldn’t be that big of an issue. The issue is governments here and abroad taking it to the absolute edge or above and it becomes so pronounced. This year $80 billion of 5-year bonds needed to be rolled over. They were issued at 0.3% and now it might have been as high as 3% issued. In one year just those bonds cost $2 billion more. Not a big deal in itself but this is happening every year on dirt cheap Covid debt and when you are trying to reign in spending you have to find something else to cover that cost. Debt eats first and it eats first in feast or famine.

Harper ran a deficit of almost $56 billion, back in 2009-10 and no one was posting such ludicrous articles of the world about to end.
Is it a large number, sure, but the economy has grown immensely since 2010 so it is still smaller as a percentage of the economy.
Use your brains people.

Raise the minimum wage a crap ton, raise the corp and higher end tax brackets. Watch that gulf between worker wages and worker productivity get more narrow. Inflation goes up, average worker standard of living goes up despite the inflation, the oligarchs take the hit, and the gdp to debt ratios look better.
