      I wonder if the women get to read our headlines where they are either likely to be raped by the men on the boat during the crossing, or just die in the process.

      The obvious solution is to set up an ~~illegal~~ irregular migrant ferry so these poor souls can be guaranteed safe passage ❣️

      We have a moral duty to return all boats to France and stop rewarding organized criminal groups and those willing to undertake these journeys due to merely a preference of the country they wish to claim asylum.

      It’s shocking that we’ve become so devoid of empathy as a society that more people have been laughing at this news of two women’s deaths than not. Absolutely horrid.

      Were they particularly unsafe in France? If not, then I’d say they took needless risks to make a dangerous journey

      I must say, I find the specific desire to come to Britain in particular to claim asylum absolutely bewildering. Is it really easier to face death crossing the open sea on a tiny dinghy than it is to claim asylum somewhere in Europe?

      Crossing the Channel at night, when the water is colder and visibility is poor, is exceptionally risky – even more so when someone is not a good swimmer.

      BUT, to the very best of our knowledge, no one forced her to make that crossing. She voluntarily chose to do so with a reasonable perception of the dangers. Though, I do have sympathy for children who do not have autonomy of choice.

      It’s an unfortunate outcome, but the consequences of her decision are hers to bear. I take no pleasure in her death, but I accept the reality of consequences—just as they apply to her, they apply to me, as anyone else.

      This event should be a wake-up call to intensify our focus on halting boat crossings and putting an end to illegal immigration once and for all.
