      We don’t want this, we want reform to come in, sell us all down the river, burn our rights, bankrupt us and probably bring in ID cards.

      How does labour keep doing this.

      I’m abivelent on universal id. I’m skeptical of labour selling our data to palantir or Oracle.

      But is this a thing our country desperately needs right now? No. Is this an unpopular policy? Yes. Do people on the left and right think labour should have bigger priorities? Absolutely. Is there’s a growing worry about labours authoritarian tendencies? Absolutely.

      So fucking why. Is it just as mcsweeny has a Tony Blair cuddle pillow that he prays to before bed?

      I’m sure labours done some good stuff, but starmers entire premiership has been constantly married by rookie mistakes that he didn’t need to make.

      If only political parties had some sort of document where they could take their ideas to the voters. Then voters could decide on a party that best represents their values and interests. We could call it **manifesto.**

      In all seriousness, Labour have no mandate for this. They should stick to growing the economy like they promised.

      You all have digital IDs in various forms such as NHS and NI. You are required to have these to be a functioning member of our society.

      You are not going to be required to carry a digital id.

      You also all have digital IDs by choice for other various things like phone contracts.

      I don’t mind the idea of a digital id that pulls a lot of the government services together.

      Hell I wouldn’t mind if reddit required me to sign in via digital ID if it meant not dealing with bots.

      But that’s just like my opinion man.

      Those who keep saying that Starmer will sell our data to Palantir, you do realise he (and any other government, let’s not pretend he is the worst person in power for the past, oh I don’t know, 15 years) can sell it to them right here right now?
      Why does he need us to have a digital ID to do that?

      Literally all my data is sitting in the same place it’s going to sit tomorrow, whether tomorrow I have an ID card or not.

      I’m pro a FREE, optional ID card for anyone who wants one in Britain.

      But a Digital ID would be too invasive. Future Governments could tie web traffic, social media usage, location data and more to your ID.

      And I cannot understand their reasoning that it’d reduce illegal working. It feels like a selling point to Reform voters, even though illegal workers often get paid cash in hand and will continue to do so after the implementation of a Digital ID.

      Labour voter all my life. It saddens me how much Labour are screwing this up. There’s been good things that get swept under the rug and then they just throw themselves under the bus with crap like this. It pains me that Reform could get into power because this party can’t just sit down, shut up and just do a better job that the god damn Tories.

      We have national ID cards in Türkiye. They’re great. We use them to log into a govt portal which completely centralises all govt departments. I can make appointments for hospitals and doctors, check my pension contributions, pay taxes, get documents for everything…I mean everything. Pretty soon we won’t need a separate driving licence and even now we can travel to some countries without a passport. The card is used to check your legal status, your work history and so much more.

      So, what happens to the data?

      İt’s all there anyway, in other forms, the İD card and citizen number just makes it much easier to get most beaurocratic stuff done.

      It’s gonna backfire because we have a history of shit implementation, outsourcing it to inept companies and some idiot leaves it on a laptop on a train.

      Plus if your phone dies, you’re sorta fucked if you need it immediately.

      I’m growing in belief that Starmer has been told that he’s going at the halfway point of the Parliament and he’s therefore going to make a deal with Palantir for our data.

      Labour get a fresh start, Starmer gets a cushy job, the country gets a Reform government and I move to Ireland.

      It’s funny how the entirety of London is OK with the IDs, but everyone else in the cuntree is not.

      It’s almost as if London has become a dictatorship. They say „jump“ and we’re expected to say „yes master. How high, master? „

      Starmer has sold our Sovereignty to a foreign entity for pennies.

      I’m completely against this, but I wish people were this up in arms when the conservatives spent 15 years laying the groundwork for our surveillance state.

      They never put in their manifesto and ruled it out in 2024.

      The nation not only disliking this government but soon will be leading to zero trust.

      They going to be wiped out and it be well deserved.

      Lib Dems / Reform / Greens could become major parties in 2029

      This has to be one of the most innovative and successful methods of uniting the country. It’s been a good while since I have seen such cross spectrum agreement. Not every day you see Boris, Farrage and Corbyn on the same page

      Think of how many people voted against the Online Safety Bill and how the government responded with ***“Your opinion doesn’t matter, we don’t care what you think“*** in record time; the government doesn’t care about us.

      Although, no political party gives a single shit about the British people, Labour, the Tories, Reform, The Lib Dems, the Greens; they only care about what the British people think when an election comes up.

      I thought the country was broke? This is a NICE THING TO HAVE (at best for even the biggest starmer supporter) rather than a MUST HAVE.

      The mistake is calling it a Digital ID card. On the back of the Online Safety Bill, it sounds like more intrusion into the way people do stuff online.

      I’ve wanted an ID card for many years and even I am slightly sceptical about it.

      If they’d announced it as a physical card as a streamlined way to access government services, age verification, european travel without a passport and a way to tackle illegal migration, then that’s more palatable.
