Biodegrading rapidly is not „green“ on a planet with too much carbon in the air. It is better for carbon to remain sequestered in a non-biodegradable state.

This is all going the way of cryptocurrency. They’re really pushing a fartstraw? What next, dogestraw? The greenest straw is drinking out of a cup like an adult, eliminating the need for disposable junk entirely.

I worked for a company awhile back that was trying to industrialize methane to plastic as a side project but it wasn’t remotely scalable then.

They didn’t mention what polymer they turned the methane into. If we’re talking about a highly water soluble polymer, then I’ll assume PVA. The process of converting methane to PVA already exists at the industrial scale, so that’s not a massive announcement.
Honestly the bigger note from this should be whether or not they’ve found a reliable, low energy way to capture methane. But from the article, it looks like they’re just capturing it at landfills. Which is certainly better than releasing it into the air, but it would be so small scale that it could never keep up with demand without atmospheric capture.
