      From the article:

The threat of mass firings came as the White House seeks to amplify pressure on Democrats ahead of next week’s funding deadline, and signal that President Donald Trump would take advantage of a shutdown to accelerate his priorities in the exact manner that Democratic lawmakers — including Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer — feared earlier this year.

Schumer in March argued for backing a GOP funding bill to keep the government open at the expense of angering his base. But with Democratic leaders vowing this time to hold steady on their demands, Trump officials are trying to shake that resolve by making clear the ways they would maximize the pain of a prolonged closure.

      >Democrats aren’t backing down

Lol you sure about that? I don’t have any faith in Chuck.

    3. They better not fucking blink. They need to show how much of this administration is held up by bluster and fear.

One of the core bullet points of P2025 is gutting the federal civil service and replacing professionals with loyalists, they were planning to do this anyways, the Dems arent going to save any jobs of they back down again

Fuck Chuck. He’ll back down like the little shit weasel he is. Or tell us how his imaginary friends would react. Fuck him and fuck the Baileys.

    6. Note the subtext here. An immediate „mass firing“ is merely „accelerating priorities“, telegraphing that they intend to do so *anyway* at some point in the future.

Republicans win either way. Their goal is to kill the government, which they are doing when it’s running and they can do when it shuts down. Maybe Dems can get a concession or two if they commit to a shutdown. I don’t imagine the concessions will be huge, but who knows.

Trump is intent on burning it all down. But he is corrupting every agency. Dems might want to consider allowing Trump to burn it all down, so that they can rebuild a democratic society.

    9. „Democrats aren’t backing down.“ Of course they are. Chuck Schumer was asked repeatedly on CNN if he was prepared to shutdown the government if Trump doesn’t come to the negotiating table. He wouldn’t even answer the question. What’s going to happen is Democrats are going to cave and become even less popular among their constituents. All Chuck Schumer is worried about is how a shutdown will affect the insider trades he’s been making for decades on the stock market.

I mean. The government needs rebuilt from the ground up after this. Might as well. It will piss off more people.

    11. I have a question. If the government shuts down… is there really anything in place to stop him? Especially with the military meeting next week… on the last day before the possible shut down…

    12. I’m in the UK, so not so hot on american politics.

Don’t the GOP have a majority in the Senate and the House?

Why do they need the democrats at all?

    13. PrestigiousQuack474 on

Unfortunately the only play the Dems really have is to let trump & co make things bad enough for the average American to wake them the fuck up. Things are going to have to get plenty bad.

    14. >Democrats aren’t backing down

They absolutely will back down. When Dems are the opposition their most important ideology is relentless bipartisanship to ensure that GOP passes all they want.

It’s abuser talk. “You’re forcing me to do this horrible thing!” when they were going to do the horrible thing regardless.

    16. Chemical-Swing453 on

Trump is just playing chicken at this point. A government shutdown would finally sink him and his government…he’s just throwing empty threats to get his way.

    17. Everythings_Fucked on

Mass re-hiring in a couple months with back pay, if the pattern holds.

    18. The instant to the orange one took office a second time, America broke.

The only way to rebuild is to wait for things to hit rock bottom.

    19. ttubehtnitahwtahw1 on

He would declare an emergency like he has every other time to gain more power than the president normally has.

    20. PrefersEarlGrey on

Why are Democrats being blamed here for a shutdown, Republicans literally control the House and Senate?

    21. Unassisted3P on

Trump has demonstrated that he will do this anyway. He’s just using the shutdown to blame the democrats for doing it.

    22. ChefCurryYumYum on

Let’s see how effective his ICE regime is when they stop getting paid baby.

He needs the government shutdown not to happen.

Not to mention the party in power typically gets blamed by the voters for shutdowns.

    23. The administration is trying to rehire from the doge purge. This is either a bluff or a shortsighted shot into their own foot

    24. Do not give in!! Shut the damn government down. GOP has all branches of government and this is their fault!

    25. peacefinder on

Time to give the masses what they voted for good and hard, and let it hurt so much they’ll remember it next November. Maybe the frog can still be shocked into jumping before it boils.

(It’ll suck and many people will be harmed by it, but at this point it’s the only way.)

    26. Hold up — the Republicans hold all the power.

They are the ones who are shutting down the system!

    27. What am I missing. The right controls every part of the federal government. Can’t they pass everything their tiny minds and black hearts desire…

    28. No-Neighborhood-3212 on

Won’t someone *please* think of the federal employees who are fine selling out every citizen to keep their own jobs?

    29. -Mage-Knight- on

It isn’t the Democrat’s job to save America from itself. The voting public chose this and they should get precisely what they voted for. If they don’t like it they can always vote differently next time….assuming there is a next time.
