AECOM, the trusted global infrastructure leader, today announced it has established a partnership with Type One Energy, a mission-driven company focused on providing sustainable, affordable fusion power to the world. As part of the partnership, AECOM will conduct preliminary design engineering for Type One’s 350MWe Infinity Two stellarator fusion power plant, which is intended to supply the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) with secure, reliable, and clean energy.

“This first-of-its-kind partnership marks a notable milestone for both companies, as we come together to advance innovative stellarator fusion technology that has the potential to bring affordable and clean energy to communities around the world,” said Frank Sweet, chief executive of AECOM’s global Environment business. “As clients globally establish their plans to meet rapidly growing energy demand, fusion technology can serve a critical role in helping to build a more resilient energy supply base.”

On September 19^(th), TVA issued Type One Energy, the world’s first Letter of Intent to construct one or more of Type One’s Infinity Two fusion power plants at their Bull Run site near Knoxville, Tennessee. AECOM and Type One Energy have already begun executing the first TVA contract for this project. A final decision by TVA to proceed with construction of the Infinity Two plants depends on successful completion of all project development activities and necessary approvals.

“This is an exciting time in the fusion energy space,” said Jennifer Obertino, senior vice president of AECOM’s global Energy practice. “Our teams have been working with Type One Energy over the course of this past year, which have given us direct experience with the company’s innovative technology and furthers our excitement in helping to bring this safe, sustainable and affordable energy to market.”
