    1. Yup.

That’s because our government has been paying for advertisement to attract the rest of Canada to Alberta.

Meanwhile our youth unemployment rate is around 20%. 1 in 5 young people looking for work cannot find it at all. And this is getting worse, not better.

If Alberta invested more in their cities’ transit and economies, Calgary would rightly be seen as an international city on par with Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal. Instead they let it sit

    3. We’re continuing to see the evening out of affordability across the country.

Way back in 2010 and earlier we had Toronto and Vancouver already incredibly unaffordable.

Over the next several years we saw outflows to more affordable parts of the country, which massively accelerated as interest rates went to near zero and pandemic introduced more flexible work options.

So the price of everywhere else in the country rose to meet Vancouver/Toronto.

That people are continuing to flood into Alberta is unsurprising, it’s a continuation of this on going trend.

Now however it’s probably not just urbanites moving out, but people from previously “affordable” places that have become remarkably more expensive, now moving to Alberta to chase further affordability.

It was never sustainable or realistic that only Vancouver/Toronto would be unbelievably expensive while every where else in the country was cheap.

    4. Our reputation must precede us because the UCP killed the Alberta Advantage. I fear Alberta’s peak is behind us if we don’t course correct.

Higher utilities, skyrocketing auto insurance, home insurance, among the highest unemployment, high youth unemployment, no more wage advantage.

The only thing we have going for us is home/rent prices are trending down thanks to our competent, pro development big cities.

How are the people of Alberta going to compete with GTA homeowner money. That’s who „Alberta’s calling“ was advertising to

    6. Seems bad for Ontario’s outlook that it has led the country in net loss for 15 consecutive quarters! Ford’s clearly doing a great job fixing the mess left behind by the Wynne government; he’s earned another 4 years for that Crown Royal stunt alone

This place cracks me up sometimes. Alberta is attracting a lot of people because if you can just get by the gongshow that is Alberta politics, its actually a pretty great place to live.

Its got high salaries, relatively low taxes and housing costs, and its a naturally beautiful place.

I get people hate Alberta because its politicians are extremely hateable at times, but this place acts like its Mordor sometimes. There’s a reason people are flooding out of Toronto and Vancouver – they are overpriced, overrated, and have extremely shitty weather too. I like visiting them, and I loved living in Vancouver when I was younger, but man that city just grinds you down after a while. It’s a really hard place to get by in.
